Brainwave entrainment is the natural synchronization of electrical activity in the brain to rhythmic sensory stimulation such as sound pulses or light flickers. When brainwave entrainment occurs, the brainwave frequencies of the brain will resonate with the frequencies of the external stimulation. This natural phenomenon is called the frequency following response.
In other words, the frequency following response happens when you use properly designed brainwave entrainment music, your brain waves will be guided to the same frequency that is encoded in the sounds. If you listen to an audio track that is designed for 10hz, your dominant brainwave frequency, after some time, will begin to resonate with the audio track at about 10Hz.
Brain waves are the electrical impulses created by the brain and are measured in hertz (Hz) with an EEG.
Brainwave bands are ranges of frequencies associated with various types of thinking, doing, or feeling. There are five categories of brainwave bands: Gamma, Beta, Alpha, Theta, and Delta. In theory, each band has its own properties and benefits.

Gamma brain waves, the fastest brain waves, are most associated with cognition, information processing, and attention and memory.
Beta brain waves, the normal waking state, are most associated with feeling very awake. The Sensory Motor Rhythm (SMR) is a sub-set of Beta (12Hz – 15Hz).
Alpha brain waves, the present-moment state, are most associated with feeling very calm and present without much thinking going on. We naturally experience this state every morning and night, after waking and before sleep.
Studies on long-term meditators have shown a large increase in alpha brainwave activity.
Theta brain waves, the hypnagogic state, are most associated with very deep relaxation meditation or the early stages of sleep. Deep theta brain waves are a very suggestive state to be in and can be used for mental programming (affirmations, suggestions, and self-hypnosis). While in this state some people may experience lucid dreaming or have visions.
Delta brain waves, the resting state, are most associated with the deepest stages of deep dreamless sleep. Delta brain waves are the slowest brain waves. When we sleep deeply, our body is healing and repairing us.
Isochronic tones are little beeps or pulse of tones that you may hear in our audios. They are the real driving force behind making brainwave entrainment happen. They generally show a more powerful, higher amplitude measurement than binaural beats with an EEG. We have worked hard to make the isochronic tones we use as balanced between pleasing to listen to and effective for brainwave entrainment.
Our soundscapes and/or musical compositions are designed to give you more to listen to. They are designed to work with the brainwave entrainment process and not against it. All of our sounds are either neutral or tempo synced to the entrainment frequency. We use techniques involving pitch and music to make them more effective and embed brainwave entrainment into the soundscapes. We never loop the soundscapes so they are non-repeating and evolving.

Bilateral Stimulation is a newer technique of moving the 3-D sounds in the audio tracks back and forth. Bilateral Stimulation can feel like being gently rocked and makes the audio tracks more relaxing to listen to. Because this is a newer technique, there are many theories as to the way it helps. One theory is because the sounds are moving, your brain is more likely to keep paying attention to the brainwave entrainment. For this reason, it is believed to help reduce the occurrence of becoming habituated to the sounds, making the brainwave entrainment more effective. We find it makes the audio tracks more gentle sounding and dissociative.
Enjoy getting immersed in the 3-D sounds when you put on a pair of headphones. We use special tools to create this effect. This may be fun; however, it also makes the experience more pleasing and effective.
